ATLANTA — More North Georgia counties are reporting cases of law enforcement officers misusing Flock Safety camera systems as agencies conduct audits of the technology.
The Hall County Sheriff’s Office has fired a third investigator after determining the system was used multiple times to track someone for personal reasons.
Investigator Melissa Wood was fired after searches showed she repeatedly tracked a specific person for reasons unrelated to law enforcement.
The violations will be sent to the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council and the Hall County Solicitor’s Office for review.
In Clayton County, Deputy Errol Farrell turned himself in as the Georgia Bureau of Investigation looks into allegations that he misused the county’s license plate reader system. Farrell was booked into the Clayton County Jail.
The GBI says the Clayton County case will be sent to the district attorney’s office for prosecution.
Several metro Atlanta communities have raised privacy concerns about Flock Safety cameras, while counties have increased audits of the systems. Investigations into their use remain ongoing across the metro area.
