Missing Clayton autistic teen found safe

A school counselor finds a missing teenager after a five hour search.

Investigators say the counselor just happened to spot the 14-year-old, who is autistic with speech and language impairment at a Wal-Mart in Stockbridge.

Christopher Robinson's mother, Christina, says Wednesday wasn't the first time her child has disappeared from M.D. Roberts Middle School. It also happened once last year.

"Academically, [the school is] doing a superb job," Robinson tells Channel 2 Action News, "but they're doing a rotten job with keeping up with him as far as his safety goes."

The sheriff's department says Christopher left M.D. Roberts Middle School shortly after 12 p.m.

The teenager had apparently become upset when a teacher took his cell phone. Later, he ran off during an outdoor gym class while a paraprofessional was busy with another student. He then walked seven miles from the school before he was found.
