ATLANTA — Metro Atlanta’s unemployment rate dropped in July as the region also saw a decline in initial jobless claims, according to the latest numbers from the Georgia Department of Labor.
The unemployment rate fell to 3.2%, down from 3.5% in June. One year ago, the rate stood at 3.4%.
Initial unemployment claims also declined by just over 1,000 in July to more than 11,000.
The latest numbers show declines in metro Atlanta’s labor force as well as the number of employed and unemployed residents.
Health care and social assistance jobs recorded the largest gains both month-over-month and year-over-year.
Local government jobs saw the largest losses over the month, while professional and technical services experienced the largest year-over-year decline.
Georgia Labor Commissioner Barbara Rivera Holmes said the department plans to continue building on the progress to ensure Georgians can work, earn paychecks and build better lives.
