DEKALB COUNTY, GA — An Atlanta man is facing charges after Georgia’s insurance commissioner says he filed a fraudulent insurance claim using a counterfeit bank statement.
Investigators say 39-year-old Darrion Lucius reported a burglary to Dunwoody police, claiming more than $18,000 worth of personal items had been stolen.
Lucius then filed an insurance claim and submitted a counterfeit bank statement as proof that he had purchased the items, according to the Georgia insurance commissioner.
Lucius is charged with insurance fraud and forgery.
He was arrested by Cobb County police in July on unrelated charges and later transferred to the DeKalb County Jail.
Insurance Commissioner John King says anyone who attempts to manipulate the system through fraudulent documents will be held accountable.
