They are already convicted of Ahmaud Arbery’s murder and sentenced in Georgia’s state case. Monday, those three men will learn their sentencing fate in the federal hate crimes case.
Travis McMichael, his father Greg, and their neighbor William “Roddie” Bryan were convicted in February in federal court after prosecutors successfully argued the trio targeted Arbery – who is Black - because of his race. The 25-year-old was followed by the three men in February of 2020, then shot twice at close range by Travis McMichael with a 12-gauge shotgun.
Both McMichaels got life in prison without parole sentences from the state. Bryan was given the chance of parole.
Meanwhile, the lawyer for Travis McMichael fears his client will be killed by fellow inmates if he remains in state prison. McMichael’s attorney late last week filed a motion to ask a judge to keep McMichael in federal custody.
