Memory card found with uncounted ballots could impact House race in south Georgia

SEMINOLE COUNTY, GA — A missing memory card containing hundreds of uncounted Election Day ballots could change the balance of power in the Georgia House.

Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger says an investigation is underway after several hundred Election Day ballots were uploaded late in Seminole County in southwest Georgia.

A routine post-election check identified about 388 additional votes, changing the apparent outcome of the race for State House District 154, officials said.

Before the discovery, incumbent Republican Gerald Green trailed Democrat Harry James by fewer than 100 votes.

The additional votes would give Green a 262-vote lead over James.

If the results stand, Democrats would have a one-vote majority in the Georgia House.
