ATLANTA (AP) Authorities say they've filed charges against a motorist involved in a crash that claimed the life of a Georgia Department of Transportation HERO worker who was helping a stranded driver.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that 47-year-old Kirk Sherwood of Loganville was being held in the Fulton County Jail Tuesday on a misdemeanor vehicular homicide charge, one count of violating the ``move over law'' and other less serious traffic offenses. His bond was $1,500. It wasn't immediately known whether he has an attorney.
Spencer Pass of Jonesboro was the first HERO operator killed in the line of duty since the Highway Emergency Response Operator program began 15 years ago.
Authorities say Pass was killed during the morning rush hour Jan. 31 while helping a motorist on Interstate 85 south of downtown Atlanta.
