DEKALB COUNTY, GA — A major water infrastructure project is getting underway in North DeKalb County, bringing additional construction traffic and noise to the area for the next several months.
Crews will replace about 4,200 feet of aging water pipes along Sumac Drive off Winters Chapel Road.
Work is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding major holidays. Construction is expected to continue through February, weather permitting.
DeKalb County says property owners will receive 48 to 72 hours’ notice before work that affects them.
The Sumac Water Main Project is part of DeKalb County’s $4 billion capital improvement program to update water infrastructure across the county.
Drivers near Emory University could also face a road closure Monday and Tuesday. Tree removal work will close a portion of Clifton Road between Ponce de Leon Avenue and East Clifton Road from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.
The affected stretch is near the Fernbank Natural History Museum and is used by drivers traveling from Ponce de Leon Avenue toward Emory University, Emory Hospital and the CDC.
