Lanier High School officer struck by vehicle

A Gwinnett County school police resource officer was struck twice by two different vehicles early Wednesday.

Gwinnett police Corpoal Edwin Ritter said the officer was directing traffic at Lanier High School in the 900 block of Buford Highway in Sugar Hill when the incident happened just before 7 a.m.  WSB's Richard Sangster reports the first car knocked the officer into the roadway; that car then hit student Jalen Gilliam's car, and he ran over the officer's leg

The officer, Rolando Jimenez, has been with Gwinnett County Public Schools since August of 2001.  He suffered serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment, Ritter said.

He said charges are pending against the driver who first hit Jimenez.
