The senior senator from Georgia, Republican Johnny Isakson, outlined his plan Tuesday to secure schools here in Georgia and across the county. Isakson was the guest speaker at the Atlanta Press Club’s monthly luncheon at The Commerce Club in downtown Atlanta.
Isakson gave details of his plan in the aftermath of the school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland Florida last week which left 17 dead. His plan is a three-pronged approach he says will curb violence in schools and hopefully prevent future tragedies like this from happening.
"I personally think if you are going to have a safety officer in a school they out to be armed,” Isakson said.
“Find out why so mnay people are falling through the cracks in terms of mental health” he said, was number two. He then gave the third step in his plan.
“Enforce the laws that you got, that’s number one.”
“Look at everything around the world that's being done in other countries,” Isakson said.
“When it came to securing our airports, it was Israel's system that really put us over the top in terms of getting security at our airports right."
