With the precipitation from this winter storm now primarily ended, the concern now is for icing of roads across metro Atlanta.
Sunday began with rain and freezing rain/sleet. By later Sunday morning, the rain changed over to snow, which blanketed much of the metro area for most of the afternoon.
Wet roads now present the threat of icing as temperatures will fall. WSB Radio meteorologist Christina Edwards says temperatures will fall through the 30′s through Sunday evening. By sunrise Monday, temperatures will drop into the upper 20′s.
“(Road conditions) will only get worse,” says Natalie Dale, Georgia Department of Transportation spokesperson. Her advice: “Continue to stay home, continue to stay off the roads.”
Dale says GDOT has 2,000 crew members deployed across the state in affected areas. Crews are working to treat roadways through the night.
Georgia governor Brian Kemp is urging residents to stay off the roads if at all possible.
