Ian makes landfall again, this time on South Carolina coast

Hurricane Ian made landfall Friday on coastal South Carolina, threatening the historic city of Charleston with severe flooding after the deadly storm caused devastating damage in Florida.

Videos shared by WSOC-TV showed strong winds causing damage and prompting officials to shelter-in-place in Charleston as Hurricane Ian moved into the state on Friday afternoon.

Reports of power outages soared in the Carolinas on Friday after Hurricane Ian made landfall on the coast of South Carolina, according to a website that tracks outages.

According to Cox Media Group’s National Content Desk, as of 2:35 p.m., more than 181,000 people were without power across South Carolinas.

Metro Atlanta remains far west of the precipitation shield and damaging wind field, 95.5 WSB’s Christina Edwards says. “As a result, rain chances have trended downward, and only spotty showers are expected late Friday afternoon through Saturday morning,” she adds.

Winds will still be breezy for metro Atlanta, with wind gusts as high as 25-35 mph possible in the heart of the metro Friday and Saturday.

Edwards says higher elevations of the North Georgia mountains may experience wind gusts of 35-40 mph. Eastern cities including Athens and Augusta may experience wind gusts as high as 35-40 mph.
