GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — One person was taken to the hospital after a crash involving a tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle on I-85 in Gwinnett County early Friday morning.
Gwinnett County police say the crash happened around 3:35 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I-85, south of Old Peachtree Road.
The tractor-trailer and passenger vehicle collided before both lost control and struck the center concrete barrier. Police say the impact from the tractor-trailer caused the upper portion of the barrier to break off and fall into the northbound lanes.
Three vehicles traveling northbound, including two driven by Gwinnett County police officers who were heading home, then struck pieces of the concrete barrier.
Those officers responded to the initial crash and provided aid to the driver of the passenger vehicle. She was taken to the hospital. Police have not provided an update on her condition.
The Accident Investigation Unit and Georgia Department of Transportation were called to the scene, along with HERO and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division.
This is an ongoing investigation.
