Hospital gives ‘honor walk’ for Georgia police chief after battling COVID-19 for months

FANNIN COUNTY, Ga. — A north Georgia police chief is out of the hospital after battling COVID-19 for 94 days.

Video posted by CHI Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga showed the staff lining up and applauding as Blue Ridge Police Chief Johnny Scearce is released from the hospital on Thursday.

“Thank y’all. God bless. What a great hospital and staff,” Scearce said before he is wheeled out.

Dozens of the hospital staff lined the hallway and cheered him on as he begins the next chapter of his recovery from home.

A GoFundMe account has been created to help support his family as he recovers.

“Scearce has dedicated his life as a public servant and is one of the longest tenured police chiefs in the state of GA,” the GoFundMe noted.
