Four teens from Cherokee County, who came to the aid of overwhelmed workers at an understaffed Waffle House in Canton last month, are honored for their efforts.
District Two Commissioner Richard Weatherby says after hearing the story on 95.5 WSB, he wanted to present them with a proclamation naming November 16 after the teens: Ryan Thorn, Jared Russo, Gabe DiTirro and Andrew Mack.
The young men washed dishes, swept floors, bussed tables and helped serve food to customers who came to the Hickory Flat Highway location the night the Braves won the National League Championship.
Two of the teens are joining the Navy. DiTirro left for boot camp Monday and Mack leaves next week.
“These four young men did not have to do any of that. They could have just left things go on as they were, but they saw a need and stepped up,” Weatherby tells WSB’s Sandra Parrish.
“It’s really awesome--I didn’t really think this would ever happen. I just went and did some dishes and now I’m getting my own day with my best friend,” says Mack.
The other two teens are seniors at Sequoyah and River Ridge High School.
Waffle House Corporate took notice as well and rewarded the young men for their efforts.
