(ATLANTA, Ga.) — All before 6 a.m., traffic around metro Atlanta has been impacted by the heavy rains that started around 8 p.m. Tuesday night.
Clogged storm drains have backed up, causing standing water across a number of interstates across the metro:
- Be careful I-75/nb before Moores Mill Road, where only the right shoulder is passable.
- Multiple right lanes are affected on I-85/sb approaching Jimmy Carter Blvd.
- I-285/sb just past I-20 on the southeast Perimeter is a dangerous spot right now — watch for those pools of water.
- At I-20/wb at Candler Road in DeKalb County, an accident caused extra delays — that’s cleared, now.
Spinout crashes have become quite commonplace too. The WSB Triple Team Traffic Center is monitoring two currently, including an accident on I-20/wb before Candler Road. That spot along the interstate in particular is prone to ponds of water.
Atlanta Police also had to shut down I-75/sb at W. Paces Ferry Road for about half an hour to deal with a car that flipped onto its roof — that’s cleared, now.

North Avenue is flooded out near the Georgia Tech campus, underneath a railroad bridge at State Street. When John Spink of the Atlanta-Journal Constitution arrived on scene, a car was stalled in the flood waters up to its tires.
