Gwinnett County teachers leaving their jobs at one of the highest rates in the state

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga — Gwinnett County teachers have some of the highest turnover rates in the state,

More than 13% of teachers left the district or moved to other schools. This rate is 4% higher than the Georgia average.

Cathy Hardin, human resources officer at Gwinnett County Schools Chief Human Resources Officer said teachers in the district are burnt out.

Violence has plagued schools in the district recently, prompting a town hall to discuss how to limit this violence.

“They’re exhausted. Some of them are saying they are exhausted coming out of the pandemic. There are a number of things that are different in the classroom in with regard to how students are responding to things,” said Hardin

Although violence was not directly cited as a reason teachers are leaving at such high rates.

The district said it planned to improve mentorship and coaching for teachers.
