Gwinnett County imposes new mask mandate for county employees starting Monday

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Gwinnett County will require all county employees to wear masks starting on Monday in response to increasing COVID-19 numbers.

Employees will have to wear masks while inside county buildings and facilities. Visitors will be strongly encouraged to wear face masks.

Mask requirements inside courtrooms will be at the discretion of the presiding judge.

On Friday, nearly every single county in metro Atlanta was ranked as an area of high transmission, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Community levels are determined by hospital bed-usage, hospital admissions and the total number of new COVID-19 cases in the community.

The mandatory face mask policy is intended to protect county workers as they provide essential services to the public, according to county administrator Glenn Stephens.

“For two and a half years, our employees have adapted to provide running water, safe roads, emergency response and other critical services to residents,” said Stephens. “It is imperative that we keep our workforce safe to continue to deliver the superior quality services our residents expect and deserve.”
