ATLANTA — Gov. Brian Kemp is reassuring Georgia voters about election security after an artificial intelligence bot accessed publicly available voting data from the Secretary of State’s website.
The AI model, developed by Anthropic, collected information from Georgia’s Election Data Hub, which contains publicly accessible election data, including voter turnout numbers.
According to the Secretary of State’s Office, the bot did not access any personal identifying information belonging to Georgia voters.
Kemp says he remains confident in the state’s election systems despite concerns surrounding the incident.
“It’s on top of mind for everybody. I would refer you back to the secretary on the details of that, but I’m still very confident in our elections process,” Kemp said.
The governor also pointed to security measures already in place to protect Georgia’s voting systems, including procedures to inspect and seal voting machines before elections.
“I think it’s good for us all because if something like that happens, to know that the voting machines are not hooked up to the internet, they’re checked in a public process and sealed before the election,” Kemp said.
State officials say they continue to monitor cybersecurity concerns while working to assure voters that their personal information remains secure.
The Secretary of State’s Office reiterated that the information accessed by Anthropic’s AI model was publicly available and did not include private voter information.
