A former Paulding County man was forced to return to the United States Monday after moving to Jamaica to avoid child molestation charges.
For over 11 years, 71-year-old Charles Manord Rainey lived in Jamaica to avoid being arrested for charges taken out against him, according to the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office.
In August 2010, PCSO began investigating allegations from a girl under the age of 16.
In July 2011, Rainey was indicted on the three felony charges. When he failed to show up for a scheduled court appearance, a bench warrant was issued for his arrest, according to the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office.
The investigation led to a warrant being issued for Rainey charging him with aggravated child molestation, child molestation, and sexual battery.
By 2012, the case was “dead docketed” because Rainey had not been located, officials said.
Authorities said Rainey was issued a six-month visa to travel to Jamaica in 2011 and was taken into custody there last week.
