Fulton County Commissioners approve $45 million design for special purpose jail facility

FULTON COUNTY, GA — Fulton County is taking a big step toward a half a billion dollar special purpose jail facility.

Fulton County Commissioners unanimously approved a more than $45-million dollar design for a facility dedicated to jail efficiency and specialized care.

According to Assistant County Manager Steve Nawrocki, officials are hopeful it will be completed in the next five years.

“We expect to have the contract executed and notice granted in the next couple of weeks. Then, that design phase will take us to roughly Q2 of 2028,” Nawrocki said.

It would house inmates with mental health needs and also have dining, laundry, and administrative facilities.
