Forsyth Co. sheriff's deputies head to court

Fired Forsyth County sheriff's deputies sue to get their jobs back.

The eleven plaintiffs name Sheriff Duane Piper, Forsyth County and its personnel director, among others.  Their lawsuit alleges age discrimination and political retaliation for their termination two months after Sheriff Piper took office last year.

The sheriff's office calls it a reduction in force.  The five lieutenants, four captains and two sergeants lost their attempts to appeal through the Forsyth County Civil Service Board.  The Georgia Supreme Court dismissed their case last month.

This lawsuit seeks reinstatement with no loss of seniority or benefits, back pay, attorney fees and damages.
