ATLANTA — Federal authorities have arrested a suspect accused of throwing a Molotov cocktail at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office in downtown Atlanta earlier this week.
The FBI announced Friday night that Inique Hinton was taken into custody in Cobb County earlier in the day without incident.
Hinton faces two federal charges, including arson and damaging government property, in connection with Tuesday’s attempted firebombing of the ICE field office along Ted Turner Drive.
Investigators believe the suspect approached the federal building around 8 p.m. Tuesday, threw a Molotov cocktail at the facility and walked away.
During a Friday night news conference, Theodore S. Hertzberg, U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Georgia, described the incident as an attack on democracy and said Hinton would face severe prosecution.
If convicted, Hinton faces between five and 20 years in prison on the arson charge and up to an additional 10 years for damaging government property.
