FAYETTEVILLE, GA — Fayetteville residents will soon pay more for water as the city moves forward with rate increases approved last year.
The Fayetteville City Council voted in August 2025 to approve water and sewage rate increases over a five-year period to help pay for upgrades and maintenance to the city’s aging water system, which dates back 90 years.
The new rates took effect Aug. 1, meaning customers will notice the increase on their September bills.
According to a statement from the city, customers will see a 3% increase, which is expected to add about $1 or $2 to most bills.
The rate increases are scheduled to continue over five years, for a total increase of 5% by fiscal year 2030.
Fees for bulk and yard waste sanitation will remain unchanged at $4 per month.
