Investigators with the Gwinnett Police Department is searching for a fake roofer who they say has scammed tens-of-thousands of dollars from unsuspecting homeowners.
Scott King was already out of bond for similar charges from 2016. Now a year later, Det. Nermin Cultaravic says he has targeted at least nine more victims and there could be others.
“He did these deals and people are probably waiting for their roof to be repaired at this moment and they have no idea they’ve been scammed,” Cultaravic tells WSB’s Sandra Parrish.
He says in each of the new cases, King used contracts from Sky Line Roofing where he had been fired in February.
“He would still continue to go from neighbor to neighbor and introducing himself as an owner of the company,” says Cultaravic.
King would collect a down payment ranging from a few thousand dollars up to $15,000 and never return. In total, he is believed to have scammed homeowners out of $50,000.
Anyone with information on King’s whereabouts is asked to contact Gwinnett County Police.
