DUNWOODY, GA — A dozen parking spaces at the Williamsburg at Dunwoody shopping center are being transformed into a temporary park Friday as the city asks residents where they want to see more green space.
The Dunwoody Parks and Recreation Department is bringing in turf, plants and real trees for the pop-up park as part of “PARK(ing) Day.”
Parks and Recreation Director Rachel Waldron says the concept “is to convert a parking space into a park for the day to show the need for greenspace and park activities.”
Residents will be able to share their ideas for future outdoor spaces by writing requests on tags and hanging them from a real willow tree.
“We’re calling it the wish tree, so we’ve made these cute little tags about ‘I wish parks had this’ or ‘I wish a park was here,’ that sort of thing,” Waldron said.
The event will also include free ice cream, a flower bouquet bar and games including cornhole, Jenga and a giant Connect 4.
“It’s very cool to see all of that passion come together in this way, and then we’re anxious to see how the community engages with it,” Waldron said.
Participants are encouraged to provide feedback on where they would like to see the next park in Dunwoody.
