Two Douglas County teens are okay after they spent a harrowing weekend on their own – behind bars. Both left locked in holding cells without food for more than 48 hours.
The two teenagers, ages 16 and 17, were left alone in their holding cells from about 5:30 Friday night until Douglas County Sheriff Phil Miller told WSB’s Pete Combs they were discovered on Monday morning.
“Surprisingly, they were okay. They drank water over the weekend. Other than being hungry, they were okay,” when they were discovered Monday morning, Miller said.
How could this have happened?
“My security people dropped the ball,” Miller said. “They failed to follow policy and procedure.”
Miller said an investigation is underway and hinted that heads could roll as a result.
