NORCROSS, GA — A suspect is facing charges in the 2020 murder of a 21-year-old man in Norcross after investigators used advances in DNA testing and genealogical searches.
Tyler Hall was found dead inside his home in August 2020 after being shot multiple times.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says 27-year-old Rashad Jackson of DeKalb County is now charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, robbery and other charges in connection with Hall’s death.
About two years ago, the GBI’s Cold Case Unit partnered with a Texas-based DNA lab to develop a complete genealogical profile of the suspect. Investigators were then able to search the suspect’s family tree, eventually identifying Jackson as a suspect.
Jackson is currently being held in a state prison on unrelated charges.
Investigators have not said whether Jackson and Hall knew each other or released information about a possible motive.
The GBI says the case remains active and investigators are still seeking information. Anyone with information about Hall’s death is asked to contact the GBI.
