SANDY SPRINGS, GA — An investigation is underway after a crash involving a Georgia State Patrol vehicle in metro Atlanta on Tuesday afternoon.
Georgia 400 northbound in Sandy Springs was shut down following the crash. Georgia Department of Transportation cameras showed a GSP cruiser was involved and had damage to the front end.
GSP officials say a trooper did not stop in time when traffic slowed on Georgia 400, and he slammed into the back of another car.
The driver of that car was rushed to the hospital. The driver’s identity and condition were not released. The trooper, whose identity was not released, was treated on the scene.
A tow truck also responded to the crash.
Lanes have since reopened on GA 400.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
