DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA — Officials in one metro Atlanta county hope a new safety program will help establish uniform safety standards at local businesses.
The Safe Business Initiative is a free program designed to give business owners and employees in Douglas County a clear plan for what to do during an emergency.
Douglas County Fire and EMS Chief Miles Allen says the program will focus on several key areas, including CPR, AEDs, fire extinguishers, Narcan and bleeding control.
“CPR training, learning how to deal with an AED, learning how to use a fire extinguisher, learning how to operate a fire extinguisher, learning how to administer Narcan and do a stop the bleed,” Allen said.
Allen says those skills can help give people the tools they need to respond while waiting for emergency personnel to arrive.
He hopes having businesses across the county follow the same safety standards will improve overall safety outcomes.
“The biggest achievement that I hope to get out of this is to educate the public, educate the community, educate the businesses starting now,” he said.
Officials plan to roll out the program soon.
