BREAKING: Georgia football tickets go on sale, about 23,000 expected at home games

Georgia fans are finally going to find out if they can get football tickets this fall.

The UGA Athletic Association sent out an email Wednesday morning to its 14,000-plus donors who account for most of Georgia’s 60,000 season-ticket allotment and asked them to do one of two things — “opt in” or “opt out” to buy tickets for the truncated 2020 football season. An official announcement from UGA is expected sometime today.

The Bulldogs have been holding onto donors’ contributions since April, when the coronavirus pandemic was still a relatively new phenomenon. Since then, the SEC has decided to play a 10-game, conference-only schedule to his set to begin on Sept. 26. Based on that schedule, which was just released Monday by the SEC office, Georgia will host four home games at Sanford Stadium and play a fifth one against Florida as a neutral-site game in Jacksonville, Fla.

UGA told donors Wednesday that Sanford Stadium will be set up at no more 25 percent capacity to adhere to social-distancing guidelines. That will allow for about 23,000 spectators, which will also include players’ families, students and faculty and staff.
