Atlanta eliminated from consideration to host 2028 Democratic National Convention

ATLANTA — Atlanta is officially out of the running to host the 2028 Democratic National Convention.

Democratic National Committee leaders selected Boston, Denver and Philadelphia as the three finalists to host the convention, eliminating Atlanta and Chicago from consideration.

The party has not said why Atlanta and Chicago were removed from the shortlist.

Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens’ office says it was disappointed to learn about Thursday’s announcement through the press and plans to have more to say in the future.

Georgia Chamber of Commerce President Chris Clark also expressed disappointment, pointing to the potential economic impact of Atlanta missing out on the convention.

“Thinking about it from the potential economic impact, that’s disappointing. We have proven ourselves with the World Cup, Super Bowls, every convention in this world, that we know how to put on a convention,” Clark said.

A final decision on which city will host the 2028 Democratic National Convention is expected later this year.
