U.S. Army raises maximum enlistment age

The U.S. Army is raising its maximum age for enlistment to 42.

The updated enlistment age brings the Army in line with the Air Force, Space Force and Coast Guard, which already accept recruits up to age 42.

The Army previously allowed recruits as old as 42 in 2006 as it worked to find new soldiers to support major combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The maximum enlistment age was later reduced to 35 in 2016.
