A former candidate for mayor of Cartersville gets two years, 3 months in federal prison, after pleading guilty to bank fraud.
Forty-six-year-old Gregory Cordell will also have to pay more than a million dollars in restitution.
Federal prosecutors say Cordell, a local realtor and developer, bought a house and six acres in Cartersville in 2003 for $1.25 million.
It had been listed for $300,000 less, but Cordell worked a deal with the seller to inflate the price, get a bigger mortgage, and pocket the difference.
The house burned down six months later, and Cordell sold the property a year later, for $900,000.
