Facebook posts cost a Barrow County teacher her job and now a judge says she will not get a back.
Ashley Payne resigned from Apalachee High School in August 2009. Someone claiming to be a parent complained to the school about pictures of Payne holding alcoholic drinks. Payne also posted she was headed to a game of “Crazy B---- Bingo” at an Atlanta restaurant.
Payne, now a graduate student at UGA, sued to get her job back. She claims she was pressured to quit, while the school district says Payne did it on her own. Payne asked the court to determine if she was entitled to a due process hearing. She also wanted back pay and money for legal fees
"Basically, we are claiming that she wasn't told her rights to a statutory hearing, that the basic premise of what was going on was misrepresented to her, that it was a complaint by a parent when they didn't have the information," said Richard Storrs, Payne’s lawyer.
Storrs said the verdict was not unexpected because of the delays in getting a court date. After so much time, Storrs said getting Payne's job back was unlikely, so he is now seeking monetary damages.
