Johns Creek mayor reelected amid scandal

Even though Johns Creek mayor Mike Bodker is accused of bribery and abuse of power, he will remain the only mayor the young city has ever had.

Bodker easily defeated challenger Bev Miller with 58 percent of the vote.

The mayor says the results are a repudiation of the allegations brought against him by the city council.

“It’s time to put our personal bickering aside and put the people first,” Bodker said during his victory speech at the Rivermont County Club. “It’s time to govern positively once again.”

He also gains at least one ally on the council. Dr. Leonard Zaprowski easily defeated incumbent Randall Johnson.

There will be a special election in three weeks to fill Bev Miller’s seat on the council. She had to give it up to run for mayor.

But Miller says she’s not done pursing the allegations against the mayor.

“Guilt is guilt,” Miller told WSB’s Pete Combs.

In a 28-page report released last month, the Johns Creek City Council says Bodker "accepted a benefit from a developer, and he had a conflict of interest when he voted on at least one rezoning matter for the developer."

Bodker says he did nothing wrong.
