Hit and run death a mystery for police

He was out in the storm last night, walking, for some reason, in the middle of Interstate 75 near Delk Road.

Now Marietta police have a body and are hunting for a hit and run driver.

"This is really a mystery," says Marietta Police Officer David Baldwin.

"When officers arrived they did find a deceased male, who appeared to be in his early 20's, laying in the middle of the roadway," Baldwin tells WSB.

It began for police at about 10:30 Wednesday night when they received a call of a person down in the northbound lanes of the highway.

How he got there is still not known.

"There were no abandoned vehicles," says Baldwin, "and it doesn't appear as if he was trying to flag down help.  All we know is that, somehow, he ended up in the middle of the interstate."

There were no car parts found near the body and traffic was extremely light due to the storm, but investigators are sure the man's death was a hit and run.

The medical examiner's office will determine the exact cause of death.

Anyone with information on the investigation is asked to call the Marietta police department.
