Hearing to determine fate of DeKalb County school system

The state school board holds a hearing this afternoon that could determine the future of the DeKalb County school system.

Last month, DeKalb was put on probation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools because of problems with the school board.

SACS accuses school board members of nepotism, meddling in the day-to-day operations of the school system, and financial mismanagement.

The probation could lead to DeKalb school system losing accreditation.

Under a new state law, if a local school system is placed on probation, the state school board can suspend members of the local board and appoint temporary replacements.
