As part of its healthy kids' meal campaign, McDonald's rolls out a new "healthy" drink for children, but correspondent Jim Chenovey suggests parents should take a closer look at the label.
"McDonald's claims Fruitizz contains no artificial colors or flavors, and is a blend of 60 percent fruit juice with no added sugar," says Chenovey. "But the key word there is added. Experts say the drink still contains 49 grams of sugar; more than a can of Coke. It also has 200 calories."
McDonald's claims the fizzy drink--sugar and all--fulfils one of the recommended servings of fruits and vegetables children are supposed to get each day.
"We are thrilled to be unveiling Fruitizz, a refreshing fizzy fruit juice drink that will help parents give children one of their five-a-day, says McDonald's chief executive and president Jill McDonald. "For the past three years, we have been working hard behind the scenes to create a fizzy drink that is unlike anything else currently available in high street restaurants. We tried and tested 80 formulations in order to create the right product that delivers nutritional benefit as well as a new, exciting taste."
