An Indiana MERS patient did not spread the virus to an Illinois business associate after all, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
After completing a series of more definitive lab tests, the CDC has announced, the Illinois man was not infected with Middle East Respiratory Syndrome during a business meeting he had with a man who as later hospitalized with virus.
The CDC says this really does not change the way they will deal with MERS in the future.
He says in the future if they get this kind of a result they will still have to take action.
“We really can't wait until we have all the tests back in order to take public health action," says David Swerdlow, M.D, with the CDC.
"We really can't make any mistakes and we want to make sure we don't allow spread of the virus."
He says the CDC will continue to evaluate the tests used to confirm MERS.
So far there are only two confirmed cases here in the United States.
