Hartsfield GM: Expect to wait 30 more minutes if sequester comes

If the sequester comes, with its across the board budget cuts, you can expect flight delays at the nation's airports.

You can also expect longer lines at security and customs, whether you're flying out or heading back.

"You can see an increase of 30 minutes or longer (if there are cuts)," says Lewis Miller, General Manager of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.  "It's going to slow down the passenger screening by the TSA.  It's going to slow down the processing of passengers coming in internationally by Customs and Border Protection."

"One day every pay period," Miller tells WSB.  "That's one day every ten, or a 10 percent reduction in staff."

Miller says the cuts will mean furloughs and since cuts cannot impact flight safety, then they will have to come from staffing.

He says the impact would stretch across the country's airport network, with delays on the ground addition to flight delays caused by cuts to FAA personnel.

"It's not fear mongering," Miller says.  "It will be real if these cuts really happen."
