The case against a Gwinnett County man and his adult daughter charged with starving his 15-month-old baby to death will proceed after a magistrate finds enough evidence to send the case to Superior Court.
Sandy Springs Police contacted Gwinnett County last month after Calvin Mcintosh brought the baby girl to Northside Hospital complaining she wasn’t breathing. The child, who weighed just 7.5 pound, was pronounced dead.
"The nurse described the baby as looking like a skeleton, basically there was no fat on the baby at all," testified Gwinnett’s lead detective James Sweeney.
Autopsy results later confirmed she died of starvation.
When officers went to the extended stay motel on Jimmy Carter Boulevard, they found three other children belonging to Mcintosh, two 3-year-olds and one 5-year-old, who all were in various stages of malnourishment. In addition, a 21-year-old woman described as Mcintosh’s wife, was found weighing just 59 pounds and was incapacitated. All were then transported to the hospital.
Police arrested 23-year-old Najlaa Mcintosh, the biological daughter of Calvin who was also the mother to two of the children. She told police she is also pregnant with a third child by him.
The two face charges of malice murder, felony murder, and multiple counts of cruelty to children.
Calvin Mcintosh is also facing rape, incest, and sodomy charges after Najlaa told police she was forced to have sexual relations with her father over several years.
