Gwinnett neighborhood locked down after explosives found

Lawrenceville police put a neighborhood on lockdown for several hours after they found explosive near someone’s home Wednesday afternoon.

Lawrenceville Police Captain Greg Vaughn tells WSB they were called about shots being fired near a home on Spring Lake Drive, off of Spring Lake Road around 1:30 p.m.

When an officer arrived, he heard another shot fired near a home at 320 Spring Lake Drive.

"Upon his investigation in the rear of the residence, looking for the source of the gunshot, he noticed some suspicious device that was near the residence near the back porch," said Vaughn.

Several homemade explosive devices were found and the subdivision was on lockdown for several hours until the devices could be moved to a safe location.

The neighborhood was cleared around 9:30pm.

One person is being questioned.

"We're still very early in the investigation, hopefully we will get some more information through our interviews to try and figure out what's going on out here and what has been going on in the past and what's up with these devices," said Vaughn.
