Georgia Tech professor a convicted felon

He's a former Georgia Tech professor.  Now he's a convicted felon.

Faiz Al-Khayyal was found guilty by a jury in the Fulton County Superior Court on 76 counts of Sexual Exploitation of Children.  In short, he was in possession of child pornography.

Al-Khayyal was on a teaching assignment in China in 2009 when the porn was discovered.

"There was a report of Malware, which the university was able to determine was on his computer at the office," says Georgia Attorney General Sam Olens.

Olens office prosecuted the case.

After it the pornography was found, Olens office notified the U.S. Customs Service at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport.

When Al-Khayyal tried to return to the U.S., Al-Khayyal was arrested.

"He also had, we allege, child porn on his laptop," Olens tells WSB.

Al-Khayyal was charged in both Fulton and Clayton Counties.

His conviction was in Fulton.  The Clayton County trial is pending.  Al-Khayyal will be sentenced at a later date in Fulton County.
