Euharlee officer cleared of criminal charges

A police officer in Euharlee will not face criminal charges after fatally shooting a teenage boy.

A Bartow County grand jury refuses to indict Corporal Nancy Beth Gatny for involuntary manslaughter or reckless conduct in the February death of 17-year-old Christopher Wayne Roupe.

Gatny was serving a warrant at the teen's home.  When he answered the door, she thought he had a gun and shot him in the chest.  According to his family, he was holding a gaming controller.

Bartow County District Attorney Rosemary Greene says a "no bill" by the grand jury ends her office's involvement in pursuing a criminal case.  The family intends to file a civil suit against the city.
