DOT, city to inspect reversible lanes on Northside Dr.

In Northwest Atlanta, they’ve had enough with the reversible lanes on Northside Drive.

Residents say they are confusing and dangerous. Especially after six accidents in the last six weeks at the intersection of Northside and Spring Valley Road.

“I’m surprised that no one has been killed right here,” resident Catherine Carrigan told Channel 2 Action News.

Now it looks like city traffic engineers and the Georgia Department of Transportation are listening. They will inspect that intersection Wednesday to see if any improvements need to be made.

The latest wreck happened Tuesday and it was ugly. Two SUVs crash and flipped in the reversible lanes.

“I think they were trying to pull out into the middle lane and they didn’t see that I was traveling down it,” said accident victim Keri Scott.

Neighbors says they have complained for years about the reversible lanes.

“I keep ice packs in my freezer for all the people who have accidents at my corner,” said Carrigan.

Carrigan and other residents say the city needs to fix lane activation lights that have been out for months.

They also want new road signs, improvements to a blind spot on Northside at Collier Road and the speed limit dropped from 35 to 30 mph because drivers fly through the intersection.

The city told Channel 2 they will have their traffic team out there Wednesday and have a response in the next day.
