Two violent attacks on real estate agents have prompted the president of the DeKalb Association of Realtors to offer safety courses.
Last Thursday, a woman was bound with duct tape and robbed inside a model home at the Wyndham Falls Estate subdivision in south DeKalb County. The victim's husband tells Channel 2 Action News was terrified.
"He walked inside. He said, look, I'm here to rob you, make this simple, pulled out a gun, duct taped her," said the man.
When she told the suspect she her husband was on his way, he fled in the victim's car. Amy Noack, President of the DeKalb Association of Realtors, tells Channel 2 Action News she wants employees who are alone inside one of the model homes to keep the door locked and call 911 if they feel uncomfortable.
"We always say, go with that. Go ahead and call 911 and say I'm not comfortable with someone who is trying to come in through the door," said Noack.
That's why she has scheduled a safety course in which officers will be on hand to answer any questions.
"We'll have a class here on safety so that the realtor members have the ability if they're feeling a little bit uncomfortable to come to that class," said Noack.
Two weeks prior to the attack in DeKalb County, a real estate agent in Smyrna was attacked by an armed man who tried to sexually assault her in the business office of a subdivision.
