Teen charged after gun reported as stolen sets off detectors at a Georgia high school

ATLANTA — An investigation is underway after a gun reported as “lost” by Atlanta police turned up at a high school in middle Georgia.

A 16-year old student at Upson Lee High School faces charges after setting off the school’s weapon detection system.

The school district says students were never in any danger.

The teen is charged with possession of a weapon on school property, possession of a gun while under the age of 18, and theft of lost property.

The identity of the student was not released.
