Smyrna police use real-time crime center to track driver accused in deadly hit-and-run

SMYRNA, GA — Smyrna police say they used their real-time crime center to track down a suspect wanted for a deadly hit-and-run over the weekend.

Within hours of the crash, investigators were able to track down the man they say hit and killed Rickey Woolf along South Cobb Drive late Saturday night.

Jafet Cruz told officers he was driving home from church when he hit something but was scared to contact police.

Smyrna Police Lt. Meredith Holt says Cruz is facing charges of “Homicide by Vehicle First Degree and Hit and Run felony charge”.

Holt says it is important for pedestrians to remember to stay in marked crosswalks, and for drivers to stop if they hit something or someone.
