Hoax shuts down metro Atlanta school

A Marietta Middle School student is not only facing disciplinary action, but criminal charges after he called 911 on Thursday to say there had been a shooting.

The school was immediately placed on lockdown and within minutes the school was swarming with law enforcement.

Marietta Police Spokesman David Baldwin tells Channel 2 Action News nothing was found and it was soon determined that the call came from an inactive cell phone that can only call 911.  They had been a victim of a hoax.

Police say other students could also face charges.

"We're also very glad that our response was exactly what we were hoping it would be, and this practice has been put into play into what could've potentially been a real life situation," said Baldwin.
